(WitWave) - In a tragic and shocking turn of events, Kimberlee Singler, a Colorado mother suspected of killing two of her children and attempting to kill a third, has been arrested in the United Kingdom, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Singler on charges of murder and attempted murder after her 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter were found dead in their home, and her 11-year-old daughter was hospitalized. The arrest, carried out "without incident," took place at an undisclosed location in the UK on Saturday, the police department confirmed.
The harrowing incident unfolded when police responded to Singler's home on December 19th following a 911 call reporting a burglary. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Singler's 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter. Both Singler and her surviving 11-year-old daughter were rushed to the hospital.
Initially considered a victim based on the reported burglary, Singler became a suspect as the investigation progressed, leading to an arrest warrant being issued. The Colorado Springs Police Department worked collaboratively with multiple law enforcement agencies during the ongoing investigation.
While Singler was initially cooperative with the police, her level of cooperation waned over time, eventually ceasing altogether. Authorities were unable to establish contact with her, prompting the issuance of the arrest warrant.
The surviving 11-year-old daughter, who was released from the hospital a few days after the incident, is reported to be recovering from her injuries. She is not currently with her mother, according to Ira Cronin, the public information officer at the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Singler now faces four counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. The charges for each alleged crime were doubled due to the victims being under the age of 12, as stated in a news release from the police department.
As the investigation continues, the Colorado Springs Police Department plans to provide more information about the arrest in a news conference at a later date. This tragic incident has left the community in shock, as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding the horrifying loss of two young lives and the attempted harm to a third child.
